India to Purchase Software-Defined Radios for Tanks Based on Elbit’s Technology
According to the contract signed under the emergency supply of the army, SDRs are intended for all tanks in the future.
Bangalore-based Alpha Design Technologies has signed an order to supply 400 indigenously manufactured Software Defined Radios (SDRs) to be installed in tanks operated by the Indian Army. This is according to a Times of India report.
The technology is based on developments by Elbit Systems, which were transferred to Alpha Design as part of the collaboration between the companies.
The Times of India quoted a senior Alpha Design official as saying, “The Indian Army has taken a significant step by ordering 400 SDR systems for some of its tanks. We have already signed the contract and production is underway.”
According to the contract signed under the Ground Forces emergency order, SDRs are intended for all tanks in the future.
