Rohde & Schwarz Gains Contract for Supporting Guardia di Finanza

Rohde & Schwarz has been awarded a contract by Italian shipbuilder Cantiere Navale Vittoria to supply Line of Sight (LOS) and Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) communication systems for Guardia di Finanza offshore patrol vessels.

“We have been supporting the Guardio di Finanza on land, sea and in the air for many years,” says Mario Zacanini, Managing Director of Rohde & Schwarz Italy. “Rohde & Schwarz and Cantiere Navale Vittoria have a long history of collaboration. We are very proud that our equipment is located in these Italian vessels. We deliver safely, ready for the future investments for today’s Coast Guard on time and on budget.”

“Rohde & Schwarz radio systems are exceptionally well designed and manufactured in an award-winning factory. They have unique, proven reliability,” says Giuseppe Di Riso, sales engineer at Rohde & Schwarz Italy.

The latest Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) is the largest patrol vessel ever built for the Guardia di Finanza and will be commissioned in 2022. It will join the large fleet already equipped with R&S postman (integrated communication system) and external communication systems from Rohde & Schwarz. The R&S M3SR Series4100 HF radios use the SOVERON communication architecture. They are innovative, multi-functional Software Defined Radios (SDRs) that can be upgraded with HF broadband functions. The powerful radio platform can be expanded at any time and is a safe, future-proof investment.

The Guardia di Finanza is the law enforcement arm of the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Customs authorities often have to monitor the long coastlines with patrol boats to prevent smuggling and illegal immigration. R&S M3SR Series4100 High Frequency (HF) radios, R&S M3SR Series4400 VHF/UHF radios and a dedicated Coast Guard Data Link (an extension of the Information and Communication System) allow authorities to monitor these large coastal areas.

Rohde & Schwarz is currently making significant investments in high-frequency broadband technology to support customers around the world in the transition to next-generation BLOS communication systems.
