After a good period of transponder activity, the FUNcube batteries need a short rest. We plan to turn off the transponder between March 3rd and March 15th depending on operating conditions. The satellite will be put into safe mode and still provide low-power telemetry

First released in 2013, AO-73 (FUNcube-1) is a popular satellite among ham radio operators that takes advantage of its VHF to UHF transponder. The satellite also transmits telemetry data that is used as an educational component in schools.

The A program for high-frequency active aurora research (HAARP) will conduct a research campaign from February 28 to March 3 UTC, with the operating hours indicated in the table below. Operating frequencies will vary, but all HAARP transmissions will be between 2.8 MHz and 10 MHz. Actual transmission days and times are highly variable based on real-time ionospheric and/or geomagnetic conditions. All information is subject to change.

These experiments will help to better understand the production and amplification of ELF/VLF waves, as well as lay the groundwork for future studies of satellite interactions with space plasma. For more information on generating ELF/VLF waves with HAARP, see the online HAARP FAQ at https://haarp.gi.alaska.edu/faq.
