Viasat to Help Analyze DOD Weapon Tech Security; Craig Miller Quoted
Viasat was chosen to help the Department of Defense evaluate the architecture of weapons systems as part of a pilot cybersecurity program that will use an automation process based on analysis.
Under the DOD contract, Viasat will work to identify vulnerabilities in key weapons components through cyber and software-defined assessments of radio threats, the company said Wednesday.
The task also includes an analysis of the system interfaces connected to the Internet of Things, networks and radio frequency functions.
As the battlefield is rapidly modernized and the use of commercial technologies and systems is rapidly implemented in the DoD infrastructure, conducting robust vulnerability tests is crucial to identify and address potential technology gaps, as well as to determine whether platforms are potentially vulnerable to attack. ” said Craig Miller, president of Viasat’s government business.
Work on the pilot program expands Viasat’s relationship with the department. In September, the company secured a pair of DOD contracts Information war research project to explore how 5G applications can support fighters in today’s combat environments.
