LONDON. At DSEI 2015, Thales announced the SquadNet military radio, which offers simultaneous voice, data and video transmission. It combines a network waveform with built-in GPS, Bluetooth and programmable encryption.
If one SquadNet is in range of another, voice communication and location data from all other radios on the network can be shared. When paired with an Android device, GPS data provides situational awareness by showing the location and recent movement of the user and other soldiers in the same network on a map or aerial photo.
The SquadNet app includes web bridge functionality that allows geographically separate squads to be connected via IP networks such as 3G, LTE or Wi-Fi. The rechargeable and replaceable batteries can last up to 28 hours and can be charged via any USB power source, officials say.
