General Dynamics wins Navy software-defined radio contract worth up to $208M
General Dynamics Mission Systems has been awarded a contract worth up to $ 208 million to continue supplying digital modular radio systems to the fleet.
The contract for unspecified delivery and unspecified quantity will allow the Navy to order high-frequency components of the amplification group for distribution, spare parts and engineering services in support of continuous flight plans and maintenance of the AN / USC-61 (C) system, according to Dec 13. message from the Ministry of Defense.
General Dynamics says that AN / USC-61 (C) is the first software-defined radio to become a communications standard for the military, providing multiple waveforms and multi-level information security for voice and data communications.
The system provides all the functions for converting radio frequencies (RF) into baseband and bandwidth in RF required for line of sight (LOS), outside LOS and satellite communication systems and is currently located on 12 different ship and submarine platforms of the Navy.
The contract covers a five-year procurement period. The work will be carried out within the command of the Naval Forces for space and naval military systems.
