The Finnish Ministry of Defense announced the permit today. Bittium and the Finnish Defense Forces plan to sign a Framework Agreement for the supply of Bittium TAC WIN products, which covers the years 2021-2024, with a total value of a maximum of about 30 million euros (excluding VAT). Under the Framework Agreement, the Finnish Defense Forces will issue separate orders for the purchase of Bittium TAC WIN products each year. The radio modules and routers of the software-defined radio system will be used in all three service branches and the C5 Defense Forces Agency.

The framework agreement will be a continuation of several years of co-operation between the Finnish Defense Forces and Bittium. It will continue to upgrade the Finnish Defense Forces’ command, control and communication system, where the software-defined Bittium TAC WIN radio system acts as a backbone for tactical data transfer. The products of the framework agreement are related to several ongoing projects in the Defense Forces, where Bittium TAC WIN provides broadband IP network connections for mobile communication stations and command posts. Mobility, keeping troops and effective communication play a key role in the reformed combat doctrine of the Finnish Defense Forces.

This framework agreement is a continuation of the previous framework agreement between Bittium and the Finnish Defense Forces for the supply of Bittium TAC WIN products. The previous agreement was announced on July 6, 2017 and covered the years 2018-2020. Contracts have already been delivered in full to the Finnish Defense Forces.

Bittium Tactical Wireless IP Network (TAC WIN) is a software-defined radio-based wireless broadband network system designed for military and public safety. With the MANET (mobile ad hoc network) system, connection and connection networks can be quickly formed into a single logical IP network, no matter where it is located. Bittium TAC WIN is compatible with existing fixed and wireless network infrastructures. The core of the system is a tactical router that allows users to freely form both wired and wireless broadband IP connections for data transmission. The tactical router also allows connections to different types of terminals and other communication systems that connect them in a communication network. In addition to the router, the system includes three types of radio heads and each radio head covers its own bandwidth and can be used to flexibly form optimized network topologies for different communication needs. All products of the system are designed for harsh conditions and thanks to the automated functions of the system the implementation of the system can be done quickly. Thanks to the software functionality of the Bittium TAC WIN system, it can be easily updated with additional performance cost-effectively throughout the life of the system.
