Sovereign ability
Central to Barrett’s proposal for the Australian Army’s LAND 200 program, which aims to create a digital nervous system that empowers the “networked and hardened” army, is its sovereign capacity.
Tranche 1 of the Australian Army’s Land 200 program has already deployed a new tactical radio data network, as well as software and computers, on dismantled troops and about 2,000 platforms, including armed reconnaissance helicopters, armored vehicles and naval landing craft.
The Land 200 Tranche 2 launched in September 2017 and aims to train soldiers to think and fight digitally. This includes the use of the latest portable tablets to display hypothetical tactical exercises without troops, battle management systems that enable personnel to practice decision-making, and an improved simulated software program to provide data to understand the situation, such as for example, movements of soldiers.
Tranche 2 will also focus on integrating the latest technology into over 500 trucks, tanks and armored vehicles.
The final part of the Land 200 project, Tranche 3, should reach the door of the life cycle of defense capability 0 in mid-2020.
Tranche 3 includes the replacement or upgrade of existing obsolete technology, the completion of the tactical communication network, and the completion of the integration of the battle management system into battle platforms and remote weapons stations.
Mr Burt explained: “Barrett’s HF SDR is being built locally and meets the requirements set by the Australian Government for tranche 3 of the Land 200 program. We are confident in our ability to build on our export success and provide ADF truly sovereign ability. ”
