Liberia: Police Commissioner Unveils Book On Liberia Criminal Justice System
The Liberian writer and senior law enforcement officer, Commissioner Ambrues Monbo Nebo Sr., presented his third book, Introduction to the Criminal Justice System in Liberia: A Short Edition Awaiting Approval by the Adventist University Review Committee for Student Use.
Mr AmbruesMonboe Nebo, senior, administrative police commissioner in the Liberian National Police (LNP) and classroom teacher, says he has been teaching sociology, political science and criminal justice for almost 10 years.
During the presentation of the book at the LNP headquarters during a press conference on Friday, 22 January in Monrovia, Commissioner Nebo also revealed that he had just completed his doctoral program in sociology at 4.00, pending the completion of his financial commitment to finished.
As an academic, Mr. Nebo says he wants to write and publish “An Introduction to Liberia’s Criminal Justice System” because he realizes that most textbooks used in the undergraduate classroom are Western books.
He explains that while these Western books are good for learning, unfortunately none of them offer contextual information specifically about the Liberian system.
“The book you are currently holding provides specific information on the criminal justice system in Liberia. In other words, if university graduates read criminal justice, do they understand the scope, the nature of their own system? That’s the essence of this book, “he says.
According to Commissioner Nebo, the book is about the Liberian context of the criminal justice system, adding that it provides contextual information that is mainly for Liberian society and emphasizes law enforcement in Liberia.
Commissioner Nebo notes that Liberian students who do not have the contextual skills to translate Western culture into Liberian society will have an easier understanding and will contribute immensely to their own system.
He reveals that in a few days he will submit the book to the Adventist University Review Committee for approval to be used as a textbook for students and will also be used by students at AMEU or by anyone interested in understanding Liberia’s system of criminal justice.
