STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

DECLARATION BY THE PRESIDENCY ON THE NEW SUCCESSES OF THE SECURITY AND INTELLECTIVITY AGENCIES

Last week, we saw the increased cooperation of Nigerian law enforcement agencies, which carried out with great synchronization the arrests of people who caused pain and hardship to their fellow citizens.

The subversive leader of the banned indigenous population of Biafra (IPOB), a group known for its murderous actions and ominous reports, has been detained as a result of cross-border co-operation. This international operation was carried out in a closely coordinated manner, after which it was handed over to our National Intelligence Agency and then returned to Nigeria to face the law.

IPOB-inspired violence has resulted in hundreds of deaths, particularly targeting government assets and law enforcement agents. In addition, fifty (55) separate violent attacks, highly concentrated in the South-East, have finally been counted, which have added to the difficulties of our honest and hard-working citizens by preventing them from making a living and living a normal life.

The government has long monitored IPOB’s activities and had good reason to believe that their sources of funding included proceeds from alleged illegal criminal activities. Through this unique action of our Security Forces, common sense, peace and tranquility have been restored to our communities that previously lived in constant fear of these deluded elements.

In support of ongoing hard work, the State Security Service raided the residence of a militant ethnic secessionist on Thursday (July 1st), who is also committing terrorist acts and disturbing the peace undercover to protect his “relatives.”

His seditious speeches and antics, which he is known to have publicly expressed, have turned into very hateful and disgusting loaded speeches in an extraordinary time. It must be emphasized that the government respects the fundamental rights of citizens to express their views and recognizes this as a democratic principle. However, any attempt to build a Armory, combined with plans, subtle or expressed, to undermine our unity as a nation will not be justified.

Mr President’s directives to the security services regarding anyone seen as carrying a weapon, in particular the AK-47, are clear and do not require additional lighting. Weapons of attack are not tools of peaceful people, and as such, no matter who they are or where they come from, security agencies must treat them equally.

The success of our security agencies is to be commended, as they have demonstrated considerable dexterity, cunning and secrecy in carrying out these missions. This level of professionalism must be maintained and implemented as we focus on extracting from our society those who have opened a new trade aimed at students, rural people and our citizens in the North-West. The nation recognizes their efforts and sacrifices.
