Barrett Communications releases Barrett 4050 HF SDR
Its features include a touch screen interface and it targets a wide market including peacekeeping, commercial business, law enforcement, security organizations, humanitarian and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). IP network connectivity “makes integration with existing networks simple,” according to Barrett. The company adds that built-in Wi-Fi enables “secure seamless operation and control” of the HF transceiver from iOS, Windows or Android based devices or Windows or OSX desktop computers.
Several languages will be available as standard on the transceiver. Initially, this will include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish with additional languages gradually added. When the Barrett 4050 HF SDR is combined with other Barrett HF products, it also provides secure digital voice, secure email, data transfer and telephone connectivity within the HF network and the international telephone network and the Internet.
Orders will be accepted from September 2016 and that there were no plans to stop production of the predecessor to the HF Transceiver 2050. O’Neil assured customers that Barrett will continue to provide spare parts and service support “for the foreseeable future”.
“The level of user accessibility at the local and remote level is a very important technological advance in the RF communications market,” said Greg O’Neill, MD of Barrett Communications. “All of this can be achieved while ensuring secure communications through encryption or frequency hopping options.”
