A former Sheriff’s deputy who is facing over a dozen felony charges is released on bond

Brian Helfert, 57, faces 16 charges of sexually abusing a minor. The allegations stem from an alleged six-year history of sexual assault and ill-treatment of a student victim whom Helfort was supposed to mentor. The trial against Helfort was due to begin this month; However, due to a serious outbreak of COVID in the courtroom, prison and community, the trial was postponed to a pre-trial conference on 6 December.you a new trial will be scheduled at this point. Helfort, meanwhile, has a PR bond. There should be no contact with the victim or minors. Menominee County Attorney Jeffrey Rogge says, “He encourages other people who may have been victims of Mr. Helfort to call him directly on 906-863-2002.”
