Keysight and Orolia Advance 5G Location-Based Services Based on Global Navigation Satellite System Technologies

DENA DOSA, California- () -Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), a leading technology company that provides state-of-the-art design and validation solutions to help accelerate innovation to connect and protect the world, and Orolia have joined forces to improve 5G location-based services (LBS) based on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technologies.

Working with Orolia, a world leader in sustainable positioning, navigation and synchronization (PNT) solutions, allows Keysight to expand its portfolio of 5G device testing solutions with advanced Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) simulation capabilities. As a result, existing users of Keysight’s 5G testing solutions can easily turn to GNSS-related 3GPP. compliance with the protocol and acceptance of the carrier test requirements by upgrading the software in Keysight’s E7515B UXM 5G wireless test platform and combining it with Orolia’s GSG-8 simulator.

“Working with Orolia has enabled Keysight to deliver GNSS-based LBS-based test solutions for 5G compliance and operator acceptance validation,” said Mutu Kumaran, general manager of Keysight device validation solutions. “Keysight’s LBS solutions also support the functionality of the proven Global Navigation Satellite System (A-GNSS), allowing users to fully address the 5G new radio (NR) compliance requirements imposed by both the Global Certification Forum (GCF) and PTCRB.

Accurate positioning is important in a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, road and air transport, entertainment and national security. Future applications, such as drones and autonomous vehicles, will depend on high-precision positioning services for reliable navigation and safe transport of people and goods. Mobile operators use GNSS and non-GNSS technologies, such as beamforming, angle positioning, and return time (RTT), to deliver customized services and support emergency calls.

“We are pleased to work with Keysight to develop solutions that enhance PNT testing for 5G communications networks and devices,” said Lisa Purdue, director of Orolia’s simulation product line. “Our GSG-8 simulator, powered by Orolia’s Skydel Simulation Engine, offers ultra-high performance and unmatched flexibility. The easy-to-use software-defined platform also offers superior jamming and tampering capabilities that can help ensure accurate, continuous operations for critical applications during interference or signal loss.

The efforts of Keysight and Orolia will allow chipset and device manufacturers to test the functionality to accurately position mobile phone users in a geographical area. Orolia’s automated and scalable GSG-8 GNSS simulator supports current GNSS constellations, including GPS, Galileo GLONASS and BeiDou, with upgrade paths to future constellations. Keysight offers built-in positioning capabilities in the UXM 5G wireless test platform for non-GNSS positioning test requirements.
