Gadkari to review progress of Delhi-Mumbai expressway project
Gurugram, April 5 (IANS) Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will review the progress of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project in the Nuh region of Haryana on Thursday.
The cornerstone of the project was laid in March 2019.
The 1,250km highway, which will pass through Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra, will reduce travel time between Delhi and Mumbai by 13 hours from 24 hours.
Recently, the Minister and the National Highway of India (NHAI) said in a statement that a section of the highway will be operational in the second half of 2022.
The proposed 12-lane expressway is expected to alleviate congestion on the Pune-Mumbai and other highways, as well as reduce car pollution in the national capital. In addition, vehicles, including buses and lorries, can travel on the route at a speed of 120 km / h.
The total estimated cost of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway project is about 87,453 kroner, including the cost of acquiring land of about 20,589 rupees.
The road will run parallel to the Delhi-Alvar route in Haryana and will leave the state in Kolgaon.
In Rajasthan, the Delhi-Mumbai highway will pass through Bharatpur, Malahra, Rajgarh, Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Indragarh, Kota and Ravatbhata. In Madhya Pradesh, the highway will cross Bhanpura, Garoth, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Jaora, Ratlam and Thandla. In Maharashtra, the expressway will pass through Thane and Palgar to end in Mumbai.
The upcoming expressway will have the first animal bridges in India. They will be designed to keep the wildlife section intact from the new infrastructure. There will be about five such animal bridges passing through the Ranthambore Wildlife Corridor and the Mukundra Wildlife Sanctuaries in Rajasthan.
Also, the collection of tolls in the section will be through radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. Initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to introduce electronic toll collection on national highways in India.
