Epiq Solutions Wins DHS Contract to Develop Converged Public Safety Communications In-Building Coverage Analysis System
The low-frequency SWaP SDR scanning and detection solution has become part of DHS’s research, meeting many of the challenges facing building coverage analysis.
ROLLED MEADOWS, Illinois (PRWEB) August 2, 2021
Epiq solutions, a company trusted by federal governments and agencies to provide software-defined radio (SDR) tools for crisis awareness, announced today won a phase II contract from the Ministry of Homeland Security (DHS) to develop a simple, trouble-free building coverage analysis system (ICAS) with low size, weight and power (SWaP) to help people respond quickly. As part of DHS Innovation Research Small Business (SBIR) Program administered by DHS Science and Technology Directorate (DHS S&T), DHS is looking for a solution to the critical problem of achieving reliable coverage of the emergency communication network in buildings of different types and locations.
Epiq Solutions successfully completed SBIR Phase I in 2020, using its commercial SDRs for RF scanning and detection to confirm key assumptions for convergent internal testing with P25, FirstNet, Commercial LTE and 5G NR. In this phase II contract, Epiq Solutions will launch a commercial product that will meet many of the challenges facing building coverage analysis and increase confidence in public safety nets for first responders who respond quickly. In particular, Epiq Solutions will develop:
-
A similar scanner / sensor that simultaneously evaluates the wireless coverage of the P25, FirstNet, commercial LTE and 5G NR, which is smaller than a deck of gaming cards and can be powered by commercial phones and tablets.
-
Built-in specially designed test application for the needs of public safety communication officers, which is simple and can be used by experts outside the network.
-
A cloud-based coverage analysis and management system that provides measurement version control and a glass window to jurisdictional authorities (AHJs), public safety communications officers, and information directors in cities and counties to review and manage coverage. their emergency communication systems.
“Epiq Solutions has the honor of being re-elected by DHS S&T to help fill the current technological gaps in communications to ensure the safety of first-timers who risk their lives for others,” said Gary Schlukbier, director of radio frequency research. in Epiq Solutions. “We look forward to working closely with DHS and government and local officials during this project to create a solution specifically designed for public safety networks and the professionals who operate them.”
