BAE Systems Software Defined Radios (SDRs) selected by the US Air Force

The US Air Force has selected BAE Systems, with the support of FlexRadio, to provide programmable radios for the High Frequency Airborne Radio Modernization (AHFRM) program. The $ 176 million contract is a safe alternative to satellite communication methods.

The AHFRM solution maintains Over-The-Horizon (OTH) communication while preventing interference from potential hazards in a drop-in radio compatible design that maximizes commercial off-the-shelf FlexRadio technology. Its scalability, modularity and capacity for future retrofit needs and adjacent operational requirements.

“Our aviation radios are scalable and designed for open architecture applications, making them a future-ready solution for the Air Force,” said Dave Logan, vice president and general manager of C4ISR Solutions, BAE Systems. “The changing threat opportunities in today’s battlefield require an extensible, modernized anti-interference solution that our product provides.”
