Calling a compass
BAE systems has flown an electronic warfare aircraft equipped with it Small adaptive bank of electronic resources SABER potential testing system for providing software updates on the EC-37B Compass Call platform.
The company said Monday it had worked with the U.S. Air Force to demonstrate technology over 11 flights of the EC-130H EW aircraft at Davis Montan Air Force Base in Arizona.
SABER uses software-defined radios and is designed to serve as the basis of the Compass Call operating system and allow the aircraft to receive new applications and updates.
“SABER allows flexibility in updating systems without significant physical reconfiguration,” said Pam Potter, director of electronic attack solutions at BAE Systems.
The BAE-USAF team will continue to test SABER’s capacity for commitment, rapid integration and dynamic resource sharing throughout the year. Testing will also assess how well SABER can work with many additional applications.
