Amdocs joins Open Networking Foundation
In order to accelerate intelligent automation technologies for the next generation of mobile and hybrid networks, a leading provider of software and services for communication and media companies Amdocs has joined the Open Network Foundation (ONF).
ONF is a consortium led by a non – profit operator aimed at driving transformation of the network infrastructure and the use of carrier business models network disaggregation, white box economy, open source software and software defined standards.
By joining ONF, Amdocs continues to build on its commitment to drive service innovation and operational flexibility through advanced service automation systems and networks based on open interfaces, industry standards, data-driven artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning ( ML) and cloud technology.
Amdocs will commit to ONF SD-RAN a project that focuses on activating modular and adaptive radio access network (RAN) solutions which help service providers innovate more easily and add new features faster. The project creates open source components for mobile RAN space that are in line with the architecture defined by the O-RAN Alliance.
“We are pleased to welcome Amdocs to the SD-RAN community,” said Timon Sloan, vice president of marketing and ecosystem at ONF. “The main goal of the SD-RAN project is to enable Multi-vendor RAN solutions allowing a combination of open source and proprietary componentsand enable the emergence of an xApps vendor market that can bring exciting new opportunities to RAN.
“One such capability is intelligent automation, using AI / ML to enable more efficient RAN infrastructure, and it’s exciting to get Amdocs committed to managing these capabilities in the context of the SD-RAN project.”
Amdocs has already been active in open technology communities, such as system integration for TIP laboratories and advanced machine learning for open cases of RAN use.
In July 2020, the company signed a final agreement to acquire Openet, a provider of 5G charging, policy and cloud technology. The deal brought Openet’s open and network-oriented technologies to Amdocs’ portfolio of more than 350 service providers worldwide, helping them take advantage of the wave of 5G advances around the cloud, finite computing, the Internet of Things (IoT) and new customer experiences.
In addition, the company continues to develop next-generation operations support systems (OSS) and automation technologies for hybrid networks between domains. It is also recognized for new product innovations and transformative OSS solutions.
“Amdocs helps service providers use and monetize the power of new networks through open, intelligent, cloud-based automation software and solutions such as Smartdocs and NEdocs from Amdocs’ next-generation OSS platform,” added Anthony Gonetileke, president of the media group. , networks and technology in Amdocs.
“Support for ONF SD-RAN is a key aspect of Amdocs’ approach to deploying AI and ML for near-real-time analysis, responsive network capacity and coverage, proactive action, and context-sensitive service. experience optimization. “
