Abaco Systems has a $3M design win
Abaco systems (Huntsville, Alabama) recently won a $ 3 million design award for a cardio device that uses low-coherence light to capture micrometer resolution in two- and three-dimensional images.
The contract, announced yesterday, is with an undisclosed client. It could have a long-term value of $ 30 million. Abaco initially shipped 1,000 units and plans to ship 4,000 over the next 10 years.
The device measures pressure differences in the coronary artery and creates images that go through a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) operation. The design includes Abaco’s ICS-1650, a 2-channel DCC-connected ADC PCI Express card for software-defined radio (SDR) applications.
Abaco advertises the ICS-1650’s ability to provide powerful baseband signal processing capability. It combines analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), digital down-converters (DDCs) and field-programmable port arrays (FPGAs) into a single PCI Express card. Typical applications include communications, signal intelligence, intelligent antenna, radar beam generation, wireless tests and measurements, and satellite ground stations.
“This design victory demonstrates Abaco’s commitment to our customers’ success in the industrial environment. This unique application is exactly the type of innovation we strive to provide. Our ability to provide ongoing long-term support demonstrates our commitment to longevity with our products, and ICS-1650 is a testament to reducing product aging, ”said Pete Thompson, vice president of product management for Abaco Systems.
